Nvidia lowers hash rate for new GeForce graphics cards to thwart crypto mining

In February, Nvidia ([[NVDA]] +1.1%) announced that all GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards would ship with a reduced Ethereum hash rate to discourage Ethereum (ETH-USD) mining and make more supplies available for the core gaming audience. Nvidia is now reducing the has rates on the new GeForce RTX 3080, 3070, and 3060 Ti graphic cards that will start shipping before the end of May.Products with a limited hash rate will be labeled with a Limited Hash Rate or LHR identifier. The reduced hash rate only applies to newly purchased products with those identifier and not products already purchased.Related: In February, Nvidia launched cryptocurrency mining processors that are essentially GPUs without the graphics.
