It seems like a long time since Sony unveiled its flagship XZ Premium at MWC in February, but the luxe handset is finally going on sale in the US. The XZ Premium will be available to pre-order from Best Buy and Amazon for $ 799 on June 12th, or buy outright and unlocked on June 19th from the same retailers, plus Fry’s. Its stand-out features are a 5.5-inch 4K screen and camera capable of capturing slow-motion 720p, 960fps video footage, but in our first impressions earlier this year, we weren’t sure the XZ Premium didn’t belong in a museum (and not in a good way).
Also going on sale from Sony in June: the company’s Xperia Touch projector, which is capable of turning any surface into a touchscreen. It’ll retail for an eye-watering…

Newcastle University researchers have developed a prosthetic limb that performs certain actions on its own. All the wearer has to do is look at an object, and the hand does the rest. Using its onboard camera to evaluate the shape, size, and distance, the hand performs the appropriate action – like picking up a coffee cup. This makes complex actions much easier for prosthetic wearers, who otherwise have to perform complex muscle actions to manipulate their limbs.

We recently wrote about Pokemon GO [Free] probably getting Legendary Pokemon this summer, and today we got more evidence of that as well as new information about upcoming features. In a recent interview (that you can find here but will need to Google Translate) Mathieu de Fayet, Niantic’s Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, talked about how the developers intend to keep people’s interest in the long run. After saying how they learned from Ingress, their other game, that a game needs to create social interactions between players, he stated that they are working on giving more value to team choice and enabling battles between players. Additionally, they are planning on releasing Legendary Pokemon.
Fayet said that these new features are planned for this coming summer, so hopefully we’ll be getting those features soon. This statement matches the developer’s earlier tease about a Legendary summer coming, so I’m guessing we’ll be seeing these features soon. After all, Niantic would be mad to miss out on reigniting interest in the game during the summer months. Hopefully, we’ll hear more information soon.
Apple’s first original television series, “Carpool Karaoke,” will debut on Apple Music in early August, the company announced today in a press release.
“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” will feature a wide range of celebrity pairs buckling up, singing songs, and undoubtedly having some entertaining discussions. The first season will feature 16 thirty-minute episodes, each with a different host and guest, ranging from Shakira and Trevor Noah to Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. New episodes will premiere exclusively to Apple Music subscribers on Tuesdays.
Apple’s version of Carpool Karaoke is based on the viral segment of The Late Late Show with James Corden. Apple bought the rights to the show last year and released the first trailer for the series in February (it was originally set to debut in April, but has since been delayed). And while Apple will stream its version of the show solely to Apple Music subscribers, Carpool Karaoke will continue to be a recurring segment on The Late Late Show. Additionally, James Corden will serve as a producer for the Apple series and will also appear in several episodes.
In addition to being Apple’s first TV series, the spin-off is also part of a larger effort by the company to revitalize its streaming service. Cupertino is expected to bring a wide range of original video content to Apple Music when iOS 11 rolls out, including Carpool Karaoke and a Shark Tank-like show for app developers hosted by will.i.am, appropriately named “Planet of the Apps”.
“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” will be available to Apple Music subscribers in over 100 countries starting Tuesday, August 8.
