Zuckerberg: Most of Facebook’s 2 billion users should assume their data has been compromised

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg today revealed that all of its 2.2 billion users should assume their public data has been compromised by third-party scrapers. The source of this vulnerability is Facebook’s search function, which allows anyone to look up users via their email address or phone numbers. Users have to opt into it, via an option that lets their names come up in searches. The security settings have this option on by default. In a blog post from CTO Mike Schroepfer, Facebook hinted at the scope of the problem: However, malicious actors have also abused these features to scrape public…

As women in tech gain experience, their pay gap with men gets worse

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

On average, women are offered 4 percent less than men for the same job at the same company.

The pay disparity between women and men is often framed as a difference in experience. But women actually miss out on pay as they gain experience, according to new data from tech job platform Hired.

Within the first two years of working in a tech job, women in the U.S. ask for and receive 98 percent of what their male counterparts make in the same job at the same company, according to the report.

Over time, that disparity grows.

On average, women with seven to 10 years of experience, for example, ask for about 90 cents on the dollar and are offered slightly more — 93 cents for every dollar a man is offered. Women with 13 to 14 years of experience ask for 94 cents for every dollar and receive just 92 cents.

There are a number of reasons for this gap beyond simply asking for less and in turn receiving less. Entry-level jobs usually have more clear-cut salary data, so men and women alike know what a specific position is worth. As job candidates advance in their careers, data on a position’s salary becomes spottier, and raises and promotions are not dealt out equally between men and women.

Exacerbating this is the fact that salary requests tend to be based on current salary. That means that if, say, a woman doesn’t receive the same promotions and raises as her male counterparts, she will ask for less than men in each subsequent position, compounding the salary disparity over time.

Additionally, as women get older, they’re also more likely to have children, which is also linked to lower salaries.

The situation is worse for women of color or those who identify as LGBTQ.

Black and Latina women in tech make 90 cents for every dollar a white man makes. That’s a marked improvement over last year but the gulf is still substantial.

Overall, the study found that, in the U.S., men are offered higher salaries than women for the same position 63 percent of the time. It also found that companies offer women 4 percent less than men for the same role, on average. This is basically the same as last year’s findings.

Salary data reflects base pay only and is drawn from a sample of 420,000 interview requests and job offers among 10,000 participating companies and about 98,000 job candidates. Demographics data is self-reported. Hired job seekers set a preferred salary, and companies have to include compensation information for every interview request.

Apple to Launch Revamped Apple ID Website That Lets Users Download All Their Data

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Apple will soon introduce an updated website for managing Apple IDs, which will allow Apple users to download a copy of all of their data stored by the company, reports Bloomberg.

Customers will be able to download data like their Contacts, photos, music preferences, Calendar information, and more. The site will essentially let users download all information stored across Apple’s apps and services.

Apple also plans to allow customers to use the site to correct personal information, disable their Apple ID account, and permanently delete an Apple ID.

At the current time, there is no way for users to download their data or delete their accounts without directly contacting Apple.

Apple is making the change to comply with the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation, which goes into effect on May 25.

Apple plans to release the new web-based privacy tools in Europe in early May, with an expansion to come to other countries at a later date.

The iOS 11.3 update, released this morning, also has privacy improvements in the form of new privacy splash screens that are displayed within each of Apple’s apps when you open them for the first time to explain what data Apple collects and why.

In just five years, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google have doubled their effect on the S&P 500

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Their stock rises — and falls — are becoming a bigger deal.

Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google — referred to collectively as FAANG — now make up more than 11 percent of the S&P 500 index. That’s nearly double what they represented in 2013, when Facebook first became part of the index, which only lists the most valuable public companies in the U.S.

These five companies had a total market value of nearly $ 3 trillion as of the end of the first quarter of the year, which means their influence on the index has greatly increased.

That’s because, unlike the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 is weighted according to the value of each company. (The Dow, for reasons passing understanding, weights its 30 stocks by the price of each share.)

It stands to reason more valuable companies would carry more weight on an index of the most valuable companies, but given how quickly major Silicon Valley companies have grown, they’re now having an outsize effect on the health of the American stock market.

In other words, if Silicon Valley is having a bad run, the S&P 500 could have a bad day as well. Indexes like the S&P 500 have become even more important as big investment groups — pension funds, mutual funds and 401Ks — have made large bets on these indexes, which are seen as a modestly safe though aggressive investment. So-called “passive investment,” where investors effectively bet on an index and sit back, have also become popular, adding to the importance of the S&P 500.
