Microsoft Planning to Integrate Cortana Into Outlook Apps for iOS and Android

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Microsoft is planning to integrate its AI assistant Cortana directly into the Outlook mobile apps on iOS and Android, according to people familiar with the company’s plans speaking with The Verge. Cortana currently offers various email-related actions and commands on supported devices, but the assistant can not be called up within Outlook on smartphones.

With the addition of Cortana, Outlook users will be able to hear their emails read aloud and respond to them with their voice. Details are still scarce, but the sources said that command phrases will include asking Cortana “What’s my email,” or asking to read recent emails from a specific contact.

The Cortana integration will allow users of the popular mobile email client to listen to and respond to emails with their voice. This will be particularly useful during car journeys, and Microsoft is testing Cortana integration directly within Outlook mobile that will work over Bluetooth and read messages aloud. Users will be able to ask Cortana phrases like “what’s my email,” or just to read messages from specific contacts.

The most recent Cortana-related iOS news saw the AI assistant’s iOS app gain native iPad support last month. Prior to that, Microsoft updated Cortana’s iPhone app last October with a revamped interface and improved performance.

Microsoft and Google each have apps dedicated to their AI assistants on the iOS App Store, aimed as competitors to Siri. The main limitation of the non-Apple assistants is that they lack system-wide functionality on iPhones and iPads, and can only work within their own apps.

Right now, the Cortana Outlook update is being tested internally within Microsoft and “if the feedback is positive,” then it will make its way to beta and public releases of Outlook on iOS and Android.

Google Assistant will be even more integrated into the OS and emphasized by it, as developers will be able to use it inside of their apps. The Google search bar widget may also finally integrate with the Assistant, but apparently these two features are so complicated to implement…

Nest is joining Google’s hardware team to better integrate AI and hardware

Nest smart thermostat official

Four years after Google officially acquired Nest, the group that makes smart thermostats is being brought in to work with Google’s hardware team.

Google confirmed today the Nest and Google hardware teams are joining forces. The big goal here is artificial intelligence, Google Assistant, and being better at building them into Nest’s smart home devices.

“All of Google’s investments in machine learning and AI, they can very clearly benefit Nest products. It just makes sense to be developing them together,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s SVP of Hardware. Nest CEO Marwan Fawaz will report directly to Osterloh under this new arrangement.

While Nest and Google already have their hardware plans set for 2018, the two companies will start co-developing products later on. Google plans to offer more hardware bundles that include Google and Nest products, and Nest CEO Marwan Fawaz says that people will eventually be able to use their Google accounts with their Nest app.

Google acquired Nest back in 2014, but Nest has been a separate division of Alphabet rather than a part of Google. Now Nest and Google’s hardware teams will be working together, which will hopefully result in improved Nest hardware that work better with Google services like Assistant and Google Accounts.

Have you ever used a Nest product?

Huawei to integrate Android Messages across their Android smartphone portfolio

Over the coming months, Huawei will make it even easier for hundreds of millions of people to express themselves via mobile messaging by integrating Android Messages, powered by RCS, across their Android smartphone portfolio.

With Android Messages and RCS messaging, Huawei devices will now offer a richer native messaging and communications experience. Features such as texting over Wi-Fi, rich media sharing, group chats, and typing indicators will now be a default part of the device. Messages from businesses will also be upgraded on Huawei’s devices through RCS business messaging. And Huawei users will be able to make video calls directly from Android Messages through carrier ViLTE and Google Duo.

In addition, to help carriers accelerate deployment of RCS messaging across their networks, we’re collaborating with Huawei to offer the Jibe RCS cloud and hub solution to current and prospective carrier partners, as part of an integrated solution with Huawei’s current infrastructure. This will enable a faster process for RCS services so more subscribers can get access to RCS messaging.

Huawei will begin integrating Android Messages across their portfolio in the coming months. For more information, see the following release.
