Apple to Host March 27 Event in Chicago: ‘Creative New Ideas for Teachers and Students’

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Apple today invited the media to an event on Tuesday, March 27 at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago. The keynote will commence at 10:00 a.m. Central Time and will be focused on “creative new ideas for teachers and students.”

Apple’s tagline suggests the event will be focused on education, and there are several rumored products in the pipeline that could fit within those plans. Here’s a recap of everything that could be announced at the March 27 event:

  • 9.7-inch iPad for $259: Taiwanese websites DigiTimes and the Economic Daily News reported that Apple is considering releasing a cheaper 9.7-inch iPad for $259—perhaps this will be education pricing. The current 9.7-inch iPad was released in March 2017 for $329.
  • MacBook Air for $799 to $899: KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple will launch a more affordable MacBook Air in the second quarter of 2018. The estimated $799-$899 price range comes from WitsView researcher Yubin Qiu. The current MacBook Air starts at $999.
  • AirPower charging mat: A trio of reports claim Apple will launch AirPower in March. The mat can inductively charge multiple Apple devices at once, including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and Apple Watch Series 3. It will also be able to charge AirPods placed in an optional charging case.
  • Wild card — a second-generation iPhone SE: Rumors have been swirling about an iPhone SE refresh, with speculated features ranging from a larger 4.2-inch display to an iPhone X-like design, but Kuo recently cast doubt on the device launching in the first half of 2018.
  • iOS 11.3 availability with ClassKit

Apple recently announced that its Everyone Can Code program will see a citywide expansion in Chicago’s public schools and city colleges this spring. The curriculum will bring coding opportunities to Chicago’s nearly 500,000 students. It’s likely we’ll learn more details about this initiative at the March 27 event.

ReadWrite Labs and Tata Communications Host Executive Roundtable on Digital Transformation

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

ReadWrite

Put great minds in one room, and over the course of a dinner, they’ll share some significant insights. This is exactly what happened at an event hosted by ReadWrite Labs and Tata Communications in Silicon Valley this month. The topic on the minds of these thought leaders was Digital Transformation (DX), a concept, challenge, and opportunity being discussed among all industries, businesses, and demographics today.

Moderated by Kyle Ellicott of ReadWrite Labs, the group discussed why Digital Transformation (DX) is now becoming mainstream, the numerous challenges companies face on their transformation journey and where we are in term of life cycle across all areas of industry.

Redefining Digital Transformation

According to Ellicott, even though digital transformation began surfacing in the 2000s, the term was associated with existing initiatives driving radical changes from paper-driven manual processes to the ability to digitize existing forms, tasks, and processes.

But the significance of Digital Transformation in recent years is about redefining business models, strategy, and customer experiences. Nothing before could make such dramatic changes because previous digital transformation initiatives had only been used to address one part of one issue. Instead today, it’s about taking on all the interrelated issues in different industries at one time for the most disruptive change possible.

Technology is Not the Only Issue:

Common issues  with digital transformation are the technology, and the capability to integrate and migrate, as well as people’s unwillingness to embrace change. Many countries like China making the move willingly to digital across all generations and among consumers and businesses. However that’s not the case with industries and consumers in different areas of the world.

Another issue is the lack of openness around data, data sharing and ownership. In many instances, data has numerous parties that can access it. However, they are limitations about what they can do with it. The ability to be open to sharing data freely among partners or connected access points within the networked society has yet to happen. Until it does, there will be hesitation for select industries to take the step toward digital transformation.

Benchmarking the Best Industries

One way to get past these issues was to look at the top industries that are doing digital transformation well. Their best practices can educate other industries. Also, they offer a benchmark for companies that want to start on their digital transformation.

Many guests at ReadWrite Labs’s event most often named transportation as a benchmark digital transformation industry. That’s because of the recent strides in the connected vehicle market. The market has gone beyond the call button for assistance. It now provides data to manufacturers that help produce better vehicles. Also, manufacturers can personalize the experience a driver has with that car brand. Now, transportation is connecting to smart cities through street lights and other IoT infrastructure.

Additionally, healthcare, including digital health and telemedicine, is a great example of digital transformation. The migration started with medical records and an understanding that DX could enhance efficiency and service. Currently, the healthcare industry is enhancing the overall experience for patients. The digital transformation framework has changed how doctors are diagnosing patients. It’s also making healthcare more accessible to many patients around the world. The result is faster diagnosis and treatment, helping to improve the lives of many.

The IoT thought leaders also mentioned payments and e-commerce and logistics as other industries that are becoming more adept at digital transformations. Both have benefitted from digital transformation in terms of more satisfied customers, faster service, and lower operating costs.

Envisioning a Different Future

Ease of access to old world services with the likes of Uber, Airbnb and many other sharing economy successes have illustrated how technology is driving business models and how entire industry ecosystems can be leapfrogged in a matter of years. Technology is now driving the formation of new industries and business models. It is no longer the other way around where business models once figured out how to insert technology into their processes. Digital Transformation has become a subject for the c-suite and is part of the strategic process of many companies.

To these thought leaders, even with all the confusion in many companies, the gap is closing. Technology solutions are available and implemented incrementally changing how things work for a company and its ecosystems. Companies and organizations are also incorporating experience-led engineering both for their customers and employees to get the most out of the DX frameworks.  For these leaders, they agreed that use case-led direction clarifies what DX is capable of delivering.

A Nearby Planet Thought to Host Life Was Just Blasted With Radiation

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

No Ordinary Day

In 2016, when scientists confirmed the discovery of Proxima b, a potentially habitable, Earth-sized planet orbiting the star Proxima Centauri, it was cause for astrobiological celebration. Proxima Centauri is the nearest star to our solar system — just 4.24 light-years away — so, in the search for extraterrestrial life, we’d found a promising candidate in our cosmic backyard.

Now, new information casts doubt on the exoplanet’s life-hosting potential, not to mention our plans to investigate it.

An artist's impression of a flare from Proxima Centauri, modeled after the loops of glowing hot gas seen in the largest solar flares, with the exoplanet Proxima b in the foreground. Image Credit: Roberto Molar Candanosa / Carnegie Institution for Science, NASA/SDO, NASA/JPL

Based on observations from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), scientists recently found that Proxima Centauri emitted an exceptionally powerful solar flare in March 2017. If life ever did exist on Proxima b, this violent flare, which was 10 times brighter than our Sun’s largest flares, may have wiped it out.

“March 24, 2017, was no ordinary day for Proxima Cen,” said Meredith MacGregor, an astronomer from the Carnegie Institution for Science, in a National Radio Astronomy Observatory press release.

Tough Conditions

MacGregor’s team found that the flare made Proxima Centauri 1,000 times brighter over the course of just 10 seconds. Though the entire event (including a smaller preceding flare) lasted less than two minutes, it bathed little Proxima b with an estimated 4,000 times more radiation than Earth receives from the Sun’s usual flares.

That’s not great news for anything that might have been alive on the exoplanet’s surface.

“It’s likely that Proxima b was blasted by high energy radiation during this flare,” said MacGregor in the press release. “Over the billions of years since Proxima b formed, flares like this one could have evaporated any atmosphere or ocean and sterilized the surface, suggesting that habitability may involve more than just being the right distance from the host star to have liquid water.”

We already have powerful telescopes in development that promise to give us a closer look at Proxima b, and missions designed to help us determine if it hosts life. Even if we find out the exoplanet it uninhabitable, that knowledge could inform our search for life on planets beyond the Centauri system.

Small dwarf stars like Proxima Centauri are the most common type in our galaxy, and we’ve already found planets in the habitable zones around several. But given that dwarf stars are prone to violent fits, like Proxima Centauri’s most recent episode, any life on the surfaces of these planets would need to be esheltered from — or hardened against — some intense solar radiation.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp: How to quickly complete the Host the Most event

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has added five new animals and brought back the Host the Most mini event. Here’s how to welcome all the new animals and complete the event fast!!

Thanks to the Host the Most seven-day event, you have the opportunity to invite new friends to Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. During the event, if you host three animals at your Campsite that have never been invited before, you’ll earn big rewards! Here’s how to complete the Host the Most event the fastest way possible.

Invite any animals to your Campsite that you’ve been hoarding

At this point, many of us have either already welcomed all the new animals to our Campsite or have come close. If you prepared from the previous Host the Most event, you will have completed all of the requests for new animals, but not invited them to your Campsite (hint for the next Host the Most event: don’t invite animals to your campsite. Hold onto them until the next event). If there are any animals waiting to be invited to your Campsite, now is the time to ask three of them to join. If you have at least three animal friends waiting in the wings, you’re done. Event crushed!

Otherwise, you’ve got some work to do.

Craft items for animals you’re close to welcoming

If you have a few animals already visiting your campground that you’ve been working on getting all of the items they want before they’ll visit your Campsite, finish those up. Each crafting item might take a long time, but it’s possible you’ll use up fewer resources than trying to invite the brand new animals that have just been added. Depending on how many new items you have to craft, you might only have to take up one crafting table per request.

Level up those friendships!

All animals have a minimum Friendship Level requirement before they will visit your Campsite. Some are as low as Level 3, which you can accomplish with the first round of requests. Others are as high as Level 10. Once your character level (that’s you in the game) reaches higher levels, Friendship Level requirements go up, too.

Get those friendship levels to their minimum requirements as fast as possible. You might even want to use some of those Request Tickets to help improve your friendships.

The new animals – what they want and what they’ll give

Since Host the Most event is to celebrate the new additions, here’s a list of the new animals, what they want, and what rewards they give when you complete requests.
