OnePlus 6 will let you hide its display notch

OnePlus 6 display notch official

One week after confirming that the OnePlus 6 will have a display notch, OnePlus has confirmed another detail of the OP6’s screen.

OnePlus will allow OnePlus 6 owners to “hide” the device’s notch. This will be accomplished by giving OP6 users the option to black out the background of the notifications and status bar. OnePlus will add this feature to the OnePlus 6 in a software update after the phone’s launch.

According to OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, a status bar blackout feature was considered for the OnePlus 6 early on, but the company opted not to add it so that it could instead focus on the device’s full-screen experience. “I still believe the best way to experience the OnePlus 6 is using the full potential of the display,” Lau says. But many users expressed interest in a blackout feature, OnePlus has decided to give OP6 owners that option.

While some people don’t mind the notch, others really don’t care for it. That’s why it’s good to see OnePlus offer the option to black it out on the OnePlus 6, and it’s possible that this move will help convince some people that were on fence about the OP6 because of its notch to pull the trigger on the device.

Like it or not, the OnePlus 6 is going to have a notch. In an attempt to soften the blow and deal with the inevitable criticism ahead of the phone’s launch, OnePlus has been bullish about the inclusion. Co-founder Carl Pei did an interview in which he explained the decision and its various merits, and CEO Pete Lau started up a thread on the company’s forum to engage with fans on the subject.

OnePlus 6 will let you hide its notch

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

It should come as no surprise by now that, like many other Android handsets lately, the OnePlus 6 will have a display cut-out near the top of its panel. Ever since sister company Oppo released its R15 pair there has been little doubt about the design of the upcoming OnePlus. If that wasn’t proof enough, co-founder Carl Pei, later described the notch in detail as well, stating that it will measure 19.62 x 7.69mm and that it will be “adding more screen real estate instead of taking anything away”. That reasoning was apparently insufficient for many anti-notch fans, currently voicing…

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has taken to the company’s forums to offer fans some reassurance about the upcoming OnePlus 6 and its controversial notched display. In response to a loud and passionate negative reaction, Lau says that OnePlus will now offer the option to black out the sides of the screen around the notch and thereby hide it, much as Huawei has done with the P20. I’ve been using the latter phone since its announcement in Paris last week, and I’ve never felt the need to hide its notch, but it’s good to have the option for people suffering from notch allergies.

The OnePlus 6 will get the notch-hiding tweak in a software update after release, Lau says, which again indicates the imminent arrival of his company’s next flagship phone….

How to Hide and Remove System Preference Panes in macOS

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

In macOS, the System Preferences app located in the Applications folder is where you can adjust various settings to customize your Mac. Most system preference panes are native to macOS and cannot be removed – although they can be hidden. In this article, we’ll show you how it’s done.

Occasionally, third-party apps installed on your Mac will insert their own preference panes in the bottom row of the System Preferences panel. Sometimes these panes will pointlessly stick around even after you’ve uninstalled the associated app. Thankfully though, they can be removed separately. To jump to our instructions on how to do that, click here.

Hide 3D paintings anywhere with AR app Artopia

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Public places may soon be filled with secret pieces of art unlocked by looking through the lens of AR, if Artopia’s cheerily creative app catches on. It essentially lets you geocache your 3D scribbles so anyone else can find, appreciate, and share them.

Artopia, currently in beta for Android and iOS, is a straightforward combination of AR painting and real world discovery. You make your art by selecting brushes, colors, and so on and moving your phone as you would the brush. Grab objects and move them around, attach them, etc.

When you’re done, save it and its precise location is saved to Artopia’s service. Now anyone passing by will be able to see it (a map shows nearby creations) and who made it, give it a like, and maybe draw some complementary work nearby.

It’s simple (in concept, not in execution), but also a thoroughly pleasant and natural combo. Of course, there will also be a report button in case someone draws a fence of phalluses around your house (for example), and the usual caveats of crowd-sourced content and moderation apply.

Artopia was created by Kuwaiti developer Omar Khalil, so the density of art might be a bit higher around the American University of Kuwait. But if this sounds like something you’re into, apply to get into the beta and start filling the parks and streets around your neighborhood with color and shape.

How to Hide Last Seen in WhatsApp on iPhone and Android

WhatsApp’s “Last Seen” is like a two-edged sword! Though this feature lets you know the time when your friends were active on the messaging app and also helps you discover when they could be readily available for a long tango, it takes away your privacy as well. What if you wish to keep your online status under the wraps as you don’t want every Tom, dick and harry to keep a close eye on when you return to the chatterbox? Fret not, hiding WhatsApp last seen timestamp on iPhone and Android is not a big ask and you can customize the setting based on what suits your discretion better.

So, you can choose to let everyone or only your contacts find out your last seen status. And, if you want to altogether shut the door on it, there is an option for that as well. Keep in mind that if you go under the hiding, you won’t be able to see others’ status either!

How to hide game videos you’ve captured on Nintendo Switch using Parental Controls

How Complete Beginners are using an ‘Untapped’ Google Network to create Passive Income ON DEMAND

Nintendo makes it easy to set restrictions for kids thanks to the Parental Controls app, even videos you record of your games.

Maybe you like to capture video of your character chopping off mutant heads in Resident Evil or stabbing a soldier in the back in Skyrim or whatever M for Mature games you play on your Nintendo Switch. Maybe you’ve also got a little one in the house that probably shouldn’t see that drug scene in L.A. Noir you just had to capture video for. Well, you can still keep your cool clips and share them with friends through your sosh meeds without your tender tykes seeing your dark side. It’s easier than you think. Here’s how.

How to restrict your kids from seeing videos in restricted games on Nintendo Switch

If you already have Restriction Levels set up in the Parental Controls app on Nintendo Switch, you don’t have to do anything. Your videos will automatically be inaccessible when Parental Controls are enabled on your Switch, depending on your level settings and the game’s Rating by the Software Rating Organization.

If you haven’t set Restriction Levels, you can do so in the Parental Controls app on your phone.

  1. Launch the Parental Controls app on your phone.
  2. Tap Console Settings.

  3. Tap Restriction Level.
  4. Select the age range you want to restrict content to.
    • Teen – For games rated 17+
    • Pre-teen – For games rated 13+
    • Child – For games rated 8+
  5. Tap Save to save the settings.

The changes will automatically sync with your Switch so the restrictions will happen instantly.

Now, when you try to view a video from a game that is above your Restriction Level, you’ll see a message that the video can’t be played because it’s restricted by Parental Controls.
