Lately, our forum members (Nyanpass, in specific) have been ultra vigilant in drudging up all sorts of new game threads for things that look interesting on the App Store. Not all of these games are brand new on the App Store, but they’re new in our forums which effectively means they weren’t really on anyone’s radar here and still might be worth a look! I’m writing this super early in the morning US time as it’s time for me to go to bed in Japan right now! I’m over seas for some secret game reveal for a company based in Japan, and, well, I get to see what the heck was worth flying me out for tomorrow!
Another Wednesday is upon us, and I’m moments away from heading to the airport for a mysterious press event I’m excited to tell everyone about tomorrow… Provided there’s not another embargo or something else on it! Also, if you are a developer or local to San Francisco and are going to be around for GDC, please look into booking a meeting with us, or at minimum, coming to our party on Wednesday (the 21st) night (7:00 PM at Bin 55). In made up holiday land, today is National Cereal Day, so be sure to have an extra helping of whatever your favorite cereal is to celebrate!
Hey it’s International Book Giving Day, which is a great way to unload all those old books you move from apartment to apartment while looking super generous at the same time! Once you’ve finished doing that, you can relax and play some of the new iOS games that have hit our forums this week. The biggest two releases are probably Death Squared and Florence (which we already reviewed). These initial roundup posts are getting a little weird because of the whole preorder thing, so make sure you check out full listing later in the evening where we catch all that stuff as it hits the App Store.
It’s a short list so far of new games that have popped up on our forums, but that’s alright because everyone should just be playing Dandara [$ 14.99]. We’ve already got a review up, along with another article discussing whether or not it’s better on the Switch or on iOS. If you’re more into made up holidays than you are iOS games (which would be weird), today is National Fettuccine Day, so be sure to carb up if you have the opportunity.
It’s Wednesday again, and we’re finally getting back to where we used to be when it comes to loads of weekly high profile game releases. The Room: Old Sins is due out tonight, but there’s a bunch more games that have already been posted to our forums. Oh, and if you’re into celebrating a random holiday today, it’s apparently Talk Like a Grizzled Prospector Day, which I suppose is the often forgotten second cousin twice removed to International Talk Like a Pirate Day? But, hey, whatever.
Things are still a little slow since the holiday rush, which has actually been pretty nice as I’ve been able to get all sorts of things done that got pushed to the back burner with how wild December was for iOS game releases. In honor of Houseplant Appreciation Day, there’s a tiny bundle of new iOS games that have hit our forums recently. The App Store is a weird platform, as on anything else (except maybe Steam), this list of releases would be an overwhelming number of games. In the mobile universe, it’s just another slow Wednesday.
Stay tuned for a full roundup later this evening, where hopefully we have a few surprises. It’s about time to start speculating when Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is going to get released again, isn’t it?
If you’re not celebrating Festival of Sleep Day by sleeping all day today, we’ve got a tiny haul of new games that have been released since the iTunes freeze ran out on the 27th. It’s still a short week for us in the US (and most of the world?) with New Years Day on Monday, so game releases have been a little strange. Hopefully things spool back up to the same overwhelming Wednesdays we’re used to soon. Antihero [$ 3.99] is probably the biggest game release this week, and we’ve already got a review up, so be sure to check that out.
Here’s the latest games to be posted to our forums following iTunes Connect thawing out on the 27th!
Well this is one heck of a weird week, we’ve already seen a bunch of great games pop up (Fez!!!), but the recent addition of pre-orders to the App Store has thrown a whole new wrench into the mix. We’re expecting Life is Strange, Inside, Gorogoa, and some other surprises which haven’t been announced yet to pop up on the App Store at some point tonight or tomorrow. That makes these posts a little odd, but that’s sort of the constant state we’re used to operating in around here. Oh, and it’s both Ice Cream Day and National Cocoa Day, so be sure you celebrate by eating/drinking whichever is currently more appropriate for your climate.
Sorry this new games roundup is coming a bit later in the day than we typically post them, this is basically me today, looking at my inbox. We’re in the magical time of the year where developers are all jockeying for position to get their games out for the holiday season, which in App Store terms, means releasing today, tomorrow, or next week. I’ve agreed to so many embargoes to cover all this stuff I’ve actually written them down on a piece of paper to not get anything confused. PAPER! Like I’m in the stone age or something. Today’s made-up holiday perfectly fits in with how the rest of my ultra-frantic day has gone, as it’s National Microwave Day, an appliance which I will most assuredly use to make some food, whenever I get five minutes, at some point today.
More games are showing up all the time and I’m just going to hit publish on this now because every time I’m about to do that I add another game and at this rate this is never going to get published otherwise. ANYWAY, off to my inbox, seeya.
It turns out that Instant Messenger (AIM) isn't the only thing that AOL is shutting down next month. On December 15th, Oath (AOL and Engadget's dear parent) is also closing what remains of the CompuServe forums which, yes, still actually exist. Compu… Engadget RSS Feed
