Despite being equipped with much larger Li-ion battery packs, new tests have revealed that the battery life performance of Samsung’s latest Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices pale in comparison to Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus. Independent battery performance tests conducted by PhoneArena revealed that even despite their voluminous superiority, Samsung’s S9 and S9+ are […] Read More… iDrop News
Today is a happy day for many mobile gamers. Why? Because it’s the 5th anniversary of one of the most popular and successful mobile games, Candy Crush Saga [Free], a game that has earned more than three billion downloads and has been in the App Store’s top 10 grossing apps for 16 quarters in a row. In other words, this is a game that has made a ton of money over the last five years. Here are some more crazy numbers for you. Candy Crush Saga has been downloaded over 2.7 billion times, over a trillion game rounds have been played, and every day approximately 72 thousand miles are swiped on the game. The highest score ever achieved is 1,999,259, 792 (definitely not by me), and the most popular time to play Candy Crush in the US is between 8pm and 10pm.
To celebrate the anniversary, Candy Crush Saga is giving players the most powerful booster to date, the Party Booster. Each player will get two free Party Boosters, and they can use them to remove all the candies from the board and damage each blocker once. And when the board settles, the booster releases a striped candy, wrapped candy, Colorbomb, and a fish, all of which explode immediately and help players progress. The party booster will be available to players on level 29 and above starting today. Happy birthday, Candy Crush Saga.
A new study about actual users of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X shows that combined adoption of the two models during the first few days of use as a percentage of the total user base is higher than that of the iPhone 6s or 7 at the same time in rollout. AppleInsider – Frontpage News
Are you addicted to your phone? Turning your phone screen grey might solve your problem. Google Design Ethicist Tristan Harris, says that enabling grayscale mode may help you cut down on your beloved smartphone time. The reasoning behind this strategy is that everything will look dull ー so you won’t be attracted to the vibrant colors fighting for your attention. Sorry Two Dots enthusiasts. iOS If you’re an owner of an iOS 10 device: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility Tap Display Accommodations > Color Filters Switch Color Filters Choose the Greyscale option Android If you’re running Android 7.1…
It's a holiday week, but if you're up from people setting off fireworks early, you can check out six new comedy specials on Netflix Tuesday morning as part of The Standups, with Deon Cole, Beth Stelling, Nate Bargatze, Dan Soder, Nikki Glaser, and Fo… Engadget RSS Feed
Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. In addition to a bunch of 64-bit updates, regular updates keep on rolling in at a steady rate. I’ve found some of the most interesting ones for you to take a look at as you enjoy your morning tankard of ale. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social [Free], the watchlist in the TouchArcade App [Free], or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
Yōdanji: The Roguelike, $ 2.99 Seeing a Kemco-published RPG getting updated with something more than bug fixes is a rare sight, but here we are. Yodanji now has some rudimentary support for controllers and keyboards, though I haven’t tested to see how well they work. The UI has gotten some tweaks, and the rules for Gentle Grass and Spiky Shrubs have been altered somewhat. There are also some new rooms, so even if you think you’ve seen everything in this game already, there are now new experiences to be had. Neat.
Footy Golf, FreeFooty Golf has a whole new world of levels to play set in space, which is a pretty good place to play kick-golf, I suspect. There are also some new Ball Booster upgrades that you can use on any of the balls you’ve unlocked. If you’ve bought the premium upgrade IAP, you can also enjoy a new feature that shows your best path on any stages you’ve set a record on. Early though this may be, I’m going to award this game the coveted UMMSMotW prize for this week.
Hidden Folks, $ 3.99 Searching for a particular thing in a picture full of things: a popular past-time that had its biggest period in the 1990s. Hidden Folks is a pretty good version of that sort of thing, but like its dead-tree ancestors, it eventually runs out of content. But hey, good news! The game got an update that adds more stuff to do. Specifically, there are three new areas to explore. Good luck finding all the stuff, and remember, if you see Wally and/or Waldo, blow on a whistle and your nearest law enforcement agent will come at once.
Trials Frontier, Free Well, I have to give it points for longevity. Trials Frontier‘s been around for a while now, and it’s gotten pretty consistently updated in that time. The latest version adds a new event called the Bandito Rally Challenge, where you can hop aboard a new Tier 1 speed bike known as The Bandito. The event cover three weekly legs of ten tracks each, so you’ll need to bring out your best if you want to show up in the leaderboards. Also in this update: bug fixes. Yeah, that’s right.
The Escapists, $ 3.99 Alcatraz. Possibly the most-escaped-from prison ever represented in fiction? For the reputation it carries, it sure seems like anytime it crops up in a movie or game, someone’s getting out of there. I guess that’s what happens when you turn your prison into a tourist attraction without, like, guards or anything. But there are guards in this version of Alcatraz, because it’s now a level in The Escapists. And escaping just isn’t much fun unless it’s a bit tricky, so there you go. Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery not included. Unfortunately.
Gangstar Vegas, Free I figured with the successor to this game out, that would be the end of updates for Gangstar Vegas, but the soul still burns, apparently. So, new content. The second and third levels of the Osteo-X Medium Exoskeleton are now available. There are also a bunch of silly new costumes to try out, a sci-fi inspired flying machine called the Strikewind, and a new Quillgun weapon that may or may not have some relation to the Needler. Wanted mode has been made more difficult, some cars will now have armed passengers inside to deter would-be jackers, and all sniper rifles can now zoom at different levels. That all sounds pretty good?
Slayaway Camp, $ 1.99 Hey paisanos! It’s the Super Summer Slasher Slayaway Camp Update Show! It’s Slayaway Camp, and killing’s the game, it’s not like the others that get all the fame! If you’ve cleared it no trouble, you can update on the double. Puzzles designed by fiends, you’ll be hooked on Deleted Scenes! You’re in for a treat, so hang on to your seat. Get ready for iMessage stickers and some other cool feats! There’s new filters, killers, bunnies, and tweaks, hanging with the campers, you’ll be hooked on killing freaks! To the brink!
He-Man™ Tappers of Grayskull™, Free Okay, let’s pretend all that unpleasantness just now was me doing a 1980s reference to segue into this one. Anyway, as is the case for many a He-Man thing, it was only a matter of time before Superior She-Ra showed up. That’s right. For the honor of love. By the powers above. She-Ra has the power and she’s brought 13 nasty Horde enemies with her. But worry not! She’s also got four new allies with her, but I don’t know if that includes Bow or not. Nor am I sure if I’d want Bow or not. Confusing feelings on that guy. There are 36 new artifacts for She-Ra alone, plus 8 new artifacts that she shares with her brother, He-Man. Some other stuff too, but I fear I’ve already tipped my secret She-Ra fan card too much already, so let’s just end this here.
Candy Crush Saga, Free I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but King doesn’t even try with the update notes for this game anymore. They used to say how many new levels there were, give the name of the new episode, maybe mention the new gimmicks, and brag about the total number of levels. Now they just have a general message saying that new levels arrive every week. I guess once you pass seventeen billion levels or whatever it stops having much meaning. You’re either hooked or not at this point. Oh well. Here it is.
Templar Battleforce RPG Full Game HD, $ 4.99 Okay, look, to tell the truth, this isn’t a very big update. But I refuse to end things on that Candy Crush note, so here we are. Templar Battleforce, which is a very good game that you should buy, has been updated to add a full combat log, allowing you to check out all the grisly mathematical details behind your victories and defeats at your leisure. This update also fixes some bugs and allows me to remind you to buy it. Good feature, that last one.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
A few months back we talked about Candy Crush [Free] becoming a TV game show, and a few weeks back we heard that Mario Lopez, of Saved by the Bell, was going to present it. Jimmy Kimmel was able to read Mario Lopez’s mind, and he re-did the TV game show’s trailer with a bit more honesty at the end, so make sure you watch the whole video below. We shouldn’t be surprised that Candy Crush will become a TV game show since the brand has been stepping outside the world of mobile gaming for some time now (including sponsoring the big Coachella party this year). And with most mobile gamers at least knowing—if not actually playing—Candy Crush on their phones, the game show has a ready-made audience.
As you can see from the trailer, the game show will take place in a huge arena with huge screens. It will, of course, be all about matching the right candy, but I’m hoping we have a bonus level where you have to sell your car to have enough money for the necessary IAPs. The game show will go live next month on CBS.
