How Deep Learning Could Fix Trump and Healthcare

Nvidia earlier this month launched a massive new push for intelligent machines, including what is likely the most expensive volume workstation in the world designed for this purpose. IBM, which has a tight relationship with Nvidia, launched a quantum computing processor that has a good chance of massively increasing the speed and intelligence of thinking systems. IBM also has been the most aggressive in promoting the concept that systems such as these could have a dramatic effect on the performance of people who use them.

Amazon could be planning to bring its checkout-free grocery stores to Europe

Amazon could be looking to expand its cashier-free grocery stores to the UK and Europe in the future. The company recently filed several trademark applications related to its Go stores with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office and its European Union equivalent.

The company filed applications to trademark four slogans: “No Lines, No Checkout. (No, Seriously),” “No Queue, No Checkout. (No, Seriously),” “Every Queue is a Defect,” and “Every Line is a Defect.” The slogans are similar to one used by the company when it first announced its Go stores last December. At the time, there were reports that the company intended to open around 2000 stores, although Amazon denied those plans. We’ve reached out to Amazon for comment, and will update…

Things That You Could Do On Your Ipad

While using an iPad is a very easy and intuitive experience, there are several things that casual users may not know about. Check out these tips in order to improve every aspect of using your tablet. Be sure to read through the article more than once to get all the information.

If you are new to using an iPad you may initially think it cannot do much. Don’t be fooled, you simply need to start looking through apps. The real capabilities of an iPad come from the additional applications that you are able to download and use directly from your device.

Soft reset your iPad if it freezes. Just hold the power and home button at the same time and for a few seconds to do this. This will make the device restart. If you simply want to force close one app, hold only the home button.

Fed up with being asked to join different Wi-Fi networks? There is an easy way to fix this issue in the Wi-Fi Settings. Simply turn off the Ask to Join settings. You will still be able to join networks; however, you will need to go to Wi-Fi settings and join from there.

Do you need some help with organizing your busy schedule? Install a Google calendar on your iPad. Tap on the mail section of your settings and select calendars. Choose add a calendar, select Google as your server and enter your Google account information. Your Google calendar will then be exported to your iPad calendar.

If you want to mute the volume on the iPad, try this. All that you need to do is hold the lower volume button for about two seconds. This is far faster than changing the volume level all the time. Press it down when you want the volume to go back to normal.

The quickest way to paste and copy on the iPad is to tap and select the needed text and hold your finger on it for a few seconds. If you move to another application, you can paste the desired text by tapping again. A popup menu appears, from which you should choose ‘paste’. You can also highlight a whole paragraph; tap it around four times.

Become an avid e-reader with you iPad. Of course it will already have a few free books for you, however; it’s capable of importing and displaying ebooks from virtually everywhere! Formats may be limited, so find a site offering compatible options and start reading all the books that have been gathering dust on your to-do list!

Auto brightness is a wonderful feature to conserve battery and energy. Then, the iPad adjusts the lighting to its surroundings. This method lets you manipulate how much battery power goes to screen illumination, which means you get to go longer between recharges. Go to Settings, and then locate the “Brightness & Wallpaper” setting.

Did you just make a typo? Tap and hold on the misspelled word, choose select and you will have access to a replace function. Tap on replace and a list of suggestions will appear. Select the right spelling and the word will be replaced. If the proper selection does not appear, you will have to use backspace and retype the word.

Copy and paste is no longer a feature only accessible on your home computer. With a simple tap of the button, you can select any area of text and copy it to your clipboard. When you’re ready to paste, tap the button once more and select the “paste” option. This is perfect for duplicate messages or sharing an idea more than once.

Did your iPad download get interrupted? Did you never receive that bonus item that was supposed to come with your new iTunes album? These are issues that are easily corrected. Just pick the Store menu in iTunes, and look for the option to check for any downloads you may have available.

If you plan to take your iPad into the kitchen, you absolutely must have a screen protector, stylus and standing case. You will accidentally drop goo all over your iPad, and the protector and case will ensure it says off the iPad itself. The stylus keeps sticky fingers off the screen, too.

Most people do not know that you are allowed to add more than four items to the dock on an iPad. You are allowed to hold up to six at a time. To add something to the dock, press and hold the icon until it shakes, then drag it into the dock.

The Spotlight search feature searches everything you have, including the songs on you iPod, apps, events and podcasts. If you want to restrict what it searches, you can go to Settings, then General and then Spotlight Search. Here, you can pick which categories you do want it to search and which you don’t.

Dim or brighten the screen within the iBooks app itself. Rather than entering the Settings menu while you are reading, select the sun-shaped icon in the upper right of the screen. Use the slider to adjust the brightness of the screen. This shortcut allows you to tweak the brightness without navigating away from your book.

Do you have scratches on your screen? You need a screen protector! This not only protects the Ipad, but it protects the fingers from getting micro-cuts as well.

Always back up your stored information in the event that your iPad gets lost or stolen. You should also set your iPad to erase all data in case someone tries to break into it. Under the “Password Lock” section, set the iPad to erase your data if a users inputs an incorrect password a maximum of 10 times.

By reading this article you are already ahead of the tablet game. Using this expert tips will really boost your experience without even thinking about. If you continually use them and read through them from time to time, you will end up being an expert tablet user and know all the ins and outs.

Oculus Research’s focal surface display could make VR much more comfortable for our eyeballs

The current generation of VR is great, but it’s far from perfect. One way VR falls short of the real world is the fixed focus distance. Despite the illusion of depth from the stereo images you’re looking at, each image is essentially flat, at a fixed perceived distance from your face, and with a focus selected by the game engine instead of your eyeballs. This can lead to fatigue or worse kinds of discomfort, and also puts limits on developers who need to strive to keep content in a visual sweet spot and a constant focus distance or risk discomfort for their users.

Oculus Research is showing off a solution to this problem at SIGGRAPH this year. They call it a “focal surface display,” and have already…

5 questions for IoT about what we could learn from the WannaCry hack

binary-823331_960_720

Last Friday here in Europe, we saw over 50,000 companies and over 100 countries hit by the WannaCry ransomware attack. In Germany, digital display boards at Deutsche Bahn train stations were inoperable. In Spain, internal computers were down at telecommunications provider Telefonica. In the UK, the National Health Service (NHS) was hit, with staff unable to access patient records, some phones down and operations canceled. The attack was halted when cybersecurity experts MalwareTech found and inadvertently activated a “kill switch” in the malicious software, although its…Read More
