Over the past couple of months, more and more phones have begun receiving Android 8.0 Oreo. Despite being about six months old now, Oreo is still rolling out to several devices, slowly contributing to its 1% marketshare. Just recently, Samsung started (and then stopped) the official rollout of Oreo to the Galaxy S8 and S8+, and now ZTE is joining the club by announcing its Axon 7 A2017U Oreo Preview Program.
The ZTE Axon 7 has an Oreo beta program, but the requirements to join are steep was written by the awesome team at Android Police.

ZTE’s Axon 7 has been pretty successful in the US, at least as far as any handset sold unlocked can claim to be. To appease owners who’ve been asking for an Oreo update for a while, the Chinese company announced back in December that the update would roll out this April. Not only that, but ZTE is giving up on its MiFavor UI in favor of something called Stock+. And now you can beta test that purer interpretation of the OS if you want. ZTE’s head honcho confirmed that the Axon 9 is coming this year and now some alleged images and specs have surfaced on Weibo. The phone both is and isn’t what we expected. A 6″ AMOLED screen with QHD+ resolution – and 18:9 aspect ratio – was to be expected. A high-res AMOLED was one of the key selling points of the 7. Heads up, ZTE Axon 7 owners, because there’s a new software update coming your way.
ZTE has announced that it’s now pushing a security maintenance release to the Axon 7. The update to build B35 includes the December 2017 Android security patches with fixes for the Blueborne and KRACK vulnerabilities as well as some performance improvements.
Here’s the changelog provided to us by ZTE:
- Google security patches through Dec 2017
- Hiya V6.3.3 for improved call blocker & protection
- Miscellaneous performance improvements and other fixes
This update is now rolling out over the air, so if you’ve got an Axon 7, be on the lookout for it. ZTE says Axon 7 owners should see the update within the next 48 hours.
