Nextbit Robin is being updated to Android 7.1.1

The Nextbit Robin was a good value when it was released, and an even greater value for those who have bought it on sale recently. Many, including myself, didn’t expect to see major software updates once Nextbit was purchased by Razer, but the phone is surprisingly now receiving an update to Android 7.1.1.

Previously, the Robin was running Android 7.0 Nougat, which came to the phone in March. Unfortunately, the update only includes the April 1st patch level. If you’re curious, you can read about some of the improvements in 7.1 here.

Android 7.1.1 update for Nextbit Robin is now available

Over a couple of months after the Android 7.0 Nougat update arrived for the Nextbit Robin, the Andoid 7.1.1 update has been made available for the cloud-focused device. Currently factory images are available, although we expect the OTA rollout will also begin soon. In case you missed, it was announced earlier this year that Nextbit is being acquired by Razer. While sales of the phone and its accessories have stopped, Nextbit promised that it will honor warranties for six more months, as well as keep pushing software/security updates to the handset through February of 2018. It looks like Android Pay will begin offering to add membership cards to your account if they are used in an Android Pay transaction.

Android app support comes to new Chromebooks from Acer, Lenovo, and HP

The vast majority of Chromebooks are still lacking Android app support. Over 80 models are listed as ‘Planned’ to receive the feature on the Chromium Wiki, with 14 devices currently supporting it to some degree. A few new Chromebooks have hit the market over the past month with the Play Store included, at least when using the Beta channel for Chrome OS.

First up is the Acer Chromebook Spin 11 (R751T), pictured above, which was announced in January and doesn’t actually seem to be out yet.
