iPhone 8, 7s, and More Rumored to Be Unveiled September 12

Apple’s fall event, where the company will unveil the highly anticipated iPhone 8, as well as other devices, will occur on September 12 — at least, according to one source.

Reportedly, mobile service providers are already being notified about the upcoming Apple keynote so that they can make preparations as far as inventory and marketing, according to carrier sources cited by French-language website Mac4Ever. It’s worth noting that Sept. 12 is one of the more likely dates for Apple’s fall event — though, based on past keynotes, Sept. 6 is equally as likely.

Despite that, Mac4Ever is placing its bet on the second Tuesday of the month. The site seems to have a decent track record of credible rumors, but as always, it’s best to take any non-verified rumor with a grain of salt.

Granted, we are still a few weeks out from Apple’s September event and there hasn’t been any word out of Cupertino as to when that event will take place. Press invites haven’t been sent out yet, though judging by Apple’s historical trends, it’s likely that they’ll be sent off in the next couple of weeks.

Devices to Be Unveiled at Apple’s Fall Event

Apple is largely expected to debut three new iPhones this year, including the premium iPhone 8 flagship, which may go by another name entirely (like iPhone X, or iPhone Edition). The top-tier device is rumored to pack in revolutionary new features like an edge-to-edge OLED display, advanced 3D-capable facial recognition, enhanced AR capabilities, and inductive wireless charging. It’s also rumored to be the first iPhone to do away with the iconic Home button and possibly Touch ID.

Additionally, the company is slated to unveil incrementally updated iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus devices that will feature the same form factor as the current-generation iPhone, but will sport wireless charging and a new glass construction. Cupertino is also likely to announce a new LTE-supported Apple Watch and possibly a new Apple TV with HDR and 4K streaming capabilities.

If Apple sticks to its previous device rollout patterns, and assuming that the keynote does take place on Sept. 12, it’s likely that this year’s lineup of devices will be available for pre-order by the Friday of that week before shipping on Sept. 22.

On the other hand, there have been a handful of claims suggesting that the iPhone 8 will either ship late, or will ship on-time but in extremely limited quantities. While the supply of iPhone 7s models should be able to meet demand, it might be best to lower any expectations of getting an iPhone 8 on the day it ships.

No matter when the event takes place, it’s likely to be the first keynote held in the Apple Park Steve Jobs Theater, named, of course, after the company’s late co-founder and CEO.
